Melissa Carvalho is a dedicated and passionate public affairs professional. For nearly fifteen years, Melissa has worked for and with the Government of Alberta in a variety of roles that have seen her work across various aspects of public relations including policy development, issues management and most recently government relations. In her time with the Government of Alberta, Melissa supported high profile consultation efforts in which she leveraged her strong stakeholder engagement and communications skills towards ensuring effective and thoughtful engagement.
As a Senior Consultant with one of Canada and Alberta’s leading public relations firms, Global Public Affairs, Melissa supports clients in developing and implementing impactful government advocacy strategies. Her expertise is diverse, supporting clients across a myriad of non-profit and private sector industries including work with numerous municipalities and post-secondary institutions and work for firms operating in the fields of infrastructure, cultural industries, health and life sciences.
Her friendly demeanor and candid communication style are as appreciated as is her strategic approach and tactical acumen by colleagues and clients alike. With her extensive experience in Alberta, and her balanced experience in the public and private sectors, she brings a unique perspective that has insights into how best to engage a variety of stakeholders.
Melissa has a BA from the University of Victoria. When she is not working, she enjoys volunteering for important causes including the Age-Friendly Edmonton initiative and Lawn Summer Nights, an annual four-night charity event in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Born and raised in Osoyoos, British Columbia Melissa left the balmy temperatures for the wide-open spaces of Edmonton where she has started to raise a family of her own, which means she can also be found volunteering her time on a soccer pitch or baseball diamond.
