Richard Truscott is one of Western Canada’s most experienced public affairs professionals, with more than 30 years of expertise in government relations, public policy, advocacy, strategic communications, and issues management. As Vice-President of Prairie Sky Strategy, he advises clients on navigating government, shaping policy outcomes, managing stakeholder relationships, and advancing strategic objectives across Western Canada and in Ottawa.
Richard’s career spans senior leadership roles in politics, business, and associations. He began on Parliament Hill as an advisor to the Leader of the Opposition, gaining firsthand experience in federal policy development and political strategy. He later served as Vice-President for Alberta and British Columbia with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), where he led advocacy campaigns that influenced public policy on taxation, regulation, competitiveness, and economic growth. He has also held senior strategic communications roles in the private sector, advising major national organizations on public affairs and reputation management.
Richard holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Calgary and an MBA from Queen’s University. He is accredited in public relations (APR) and is a Fellow of the Canadian Public Relations Society (FCPRS). He serves on the national board of the Public Affairs Association of Canada and is a past President and Treasurer of its Alberta chapter.
